Description

(Excerpts from Introduction)

The history of Gyalpo is vast and extensive, encompassing the three realms of politics, religion, and culture. However, unfortunately, due to the lack of interest in history, not only are people less familiar with historical knowledge, but they also fail to preserve historical documents. Although the oral traditions of Tsang-rang, Namgyal, Dge-lung, and Mgar-phug are considered important sources for Gyalpo’s history, the historical accounts recorded in these sources lack solid evidence and authenticity, leading to widespread inaccuracies and errors in Gyalpo’s history. Furthermore, the Gtsang-rang Choss-de’s regulations have become the primary source of distorted Gyalpo history. Therefore, it is inevitable that a distorted and inflated version of Gyalpo’s history has emerged. While there are some reliable historical accounts written by foreigners, they focus primarily on politics and commerce and are not available in our native language. Therefore, filling the gap in both history and our native language is an urgent and crucial need. Recognizing this, the Gyalpo Sa-skya Ngang-pa’s Tshogs-pa, during its fourth session, deemed this issue of utmost importance and proposed the publication of a scholarly historical work on Gyalpo. Consequently, I, a person of limited knowledge and leisure, have been entrusted with the important task of researching Gyalpo’s history.
