As an artist, Raj Prakash’s work is characterised by a unique style of painting; his paubhas are usually relatively small compositions with an average width of around 10 to 16 inches (254 to 405mm) or so. In the past he was often afflicted with eye-strain, which somewhat limited his daily working hours, and yet made each composition a true ‘labour of love’. In this respect Raj’s artwork is really a world-apart from the mainstream commercial art-market of Nepal, where literally hundreds of Hindu and Buddhist paintings are mass-produced under sweatshop conditions on an almost weekly basis.
