Description
The purpose of this book is to discuss and present the findings of the exploration conducted to understand Newala and Nepala, – what do they mean, how old are they, how did they come about, and how are these two related. However, these exploration works were extensions of attempts to understand the nature of Newara language and Newära words.
Corroborating the legends of the land, the findings of various branches of science and technology (geology, geography, etc.) and the nature of Newära language and the toponomy, it was found that the settlements in Nepal valley must have started when Nepal lake still covered much of the valley lower than Sakwa hillock. The first settlers in Nepal valley were Newalas. They entered the Nepal valley at least four thousand years ago via the pass, that is, the Saha in the North-East corner of the valley. The names of settlements, rivers, etc. were all in Newãra language. Contrary to the present notion that both Newãra the people and the language are just about a thousand years old, this research work clearly showed that both of them are at least four thousand years old and that they predate the presently accepted history of Nepal.
The period prior to the time of any written evidences is called Pre-history. Although we have a host of legends from pre-historical period, they are not in forms which can be accepted at their face value. They are not even in a state, where they can be easily understood or properly interpreted. And in order to extract sense from such legends, a range of scientific techniques and logic have been utilized. The techniques utilized in the effort to understand Nepala and Newala include – history of Nepal, the findings of geological research, the analysis of various maps of these areas and their topology, geographical features, etc. Proper understanding of Newãra language has been extremely helpful in this research work. But this book is not about Newära language. Instead, it is about the fascinating facets of Nepal’s prehistory which were revealed while trying to understand the nature of Newära language and words.
